Families often experience disruption and stress in their lives as they go through life transitions which can range from managing busy schedules all the way to divorce. Dr. Brandt has received specialized training in assisting families in identifying issues and finding solutions. She can intervene in a variety of ways including implementing structure, education, skill development, facilitating family communication, and teaching parenting tools.
Issues which may require family therapy include:
- Time and stress management
- Parenting conflicts
- Parent-child conflicts
- Poor family communication
- Reorganization of the family due to life changes
- Co-parenting children and step-children
- Adolescent adjustment difficulties
Because family issues are addressed with the family rather than identifying any individual family member as “the problem", the entire family is asked to participate. Meetings may be held in a variety of formats including: parents together, family together, children/child alone/ parents alone, stepparents and parents, extended family and family. This flexibility in formats ensures that all family members perspectives are understood and concerns addressed in the family therapy process. Research indicates strongly that working with the entire family system is necessary to create real, long-lasting change.
