You will be greeted at Reception and given a brief packet of paperwork to complete. At your scheduled appointment time, Dr. Brandt will be out to bring you back to her office.
The first visit is an Initial Consultation where Dr. Brandt covers three primary points:
1. | Basic information: The client(s) describes what is bringing s/he into therapy. Dr. Brandt
asks assists with questions and clarifications. |
|
2. | Goals: The client(s) identifies what s/he wants to accomplish in therapy. This goal allows progress to be measured and keeps the process on-track. |
|
3. | Goodness of Fit: Dr. Brandt determines if she can assist the client and, if so, lays out a plan to achieve the goal of the client. The client then decides whether or not to proceed with the therapy process. |
For EMDR, clients are often seen more than once a week as the brain primarily processes in session. For other types of work, clients generally attend weekly at the the same time as they have tasks to complete for the purposes of skill-building between sessions.
Therapy is seen as short term and serves as a tool for the client to use in order to reach his/her goals.
